Watercolor and rain water on paper, 9x10.5"

This piece was inspired by the way in which we coexist with the environment. Life in the city has less exposure to nature than my birthplace (a rural agricultural farm), so the moments where the natural and man-made worlds do collide are more pronounced. The thunderstorms, butterfly migrations, and coyote sightings we’ve been getting in Southern California are reminders that nature is not limited to a certain area. Nor is it just for our consumption much like collecting fireflies can be. This painting was made with natural, homemade watercolor paints and collected rain water as an ode to all the ways we can harvest sustainably from the environment.
