Excuse the slightly less professional tone of this whole blog post but I am too over the moon about it all. This Small Business Saturday, the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES came to These Hands Maker’s Collective, the studio where I have my residency! I am truly devastated to report that I was out of town but so incredibly stoked for These Hands which deserves all the love, publicity, and support in the world!
Madame VP was introduced to my homemade watercolor paints (a product I don’t sell in bulk online but do sell in store at These Hands!) and some of my original artwork! Thank you so much, Denise, for hyping it up! She also said that she particularly liked my ballot painting (EEEEP) pictured here! After hearing that, I’ve pulled it from the shop because I don’t know if I’ll be trying to fan mail it to her or keep it forever :’) Let me know if you have any thoughts on what I should do!

Still not over it
I wasn’t even in the studio that day and I am going to be riding on this high for quite some time.
Making art is a really intimate act. You bare your heart a little bit every day hoping that maybe it’ll resonate with someone else. It’s one big risk and, truth be told, sometimes I don’t feel up for the soul-baring part of my job. The “I Voted” ballot painting was one that I created for me during a tumultuous time. I had no intentions on selling or sharing it. I ended up putting it (and thus, myself) out there and to have that piece be a standout to the VP is the sweetest validation I can imagine.
you don’t have to be a vp to be a big deal
